Kay and Ann will get you out of your little knitting box and trying all sorts of new things. From knitted dishcloths and rugs (sure cures for "precious knits syndrome") to adorable baby bibs and sweaters, there's something here for everyone.

Maybe it's just the history geek in me, but I found this book a fascinating and useful addition to my knitting library. The book takes the reader back to early America through the eyes of knitters to see what women knit -- and how women lived -- from that time forward. The book includes several historical patterns.

Some people find Elizabeth Zimmerman patronizing, but I found this book to be absolutely invaluable for anyone who wants to strike out and knit things their own way. Zimmerman is very much a fan of knitting in the round and steeking for cardigans (I confess, I still fear the steek), so for those who long to avoid seaming, her methods are useful.

Cat Bordhi takes a whole new look at knitting socks when she moves the gusset decreases all around, making them into design elements and adding a whole variety of toes and heels.

If you're wondering what to do with that leftover skein or two from your last big knitting project, try this book for some ideas. Hats, scarves, baby stuff, bags, felted things, mitts, and more. One note, though: the term "skein" is used pretty loosely. More than one project in this book requires an entire CONE of yarn to finish. Check the yardage requirements!
